In year 1 we are like a family. We work together, play together and help each other to be the very best. We try hard to make our children independent learners and challenge them by setting high goals. We love to explore new concepts and have fun with our learning.
Routines in year 1
We have Maths, Literacy, Guided Reading and Phonics every morning.
In the afternoons we learn about different subjects, sceince, geography, history, art, music, DT, PE and RE.
PE is currently on Thursday.
Each child is allocated two or three reading books each week. The TA listens to the child in this session and their books are changed on a designated day. The children have a Guided Reading session each week with a teacher and explore their understanding of a text, at least three times a week.
Homework is sent home every Friday. This should be completed and handed in by the following Thursday.
How can you support your child?
Read with your child at home and use phonics to sound the words out. Discuss what has been read and ask questions about the text.
Ensure all homework has been completed before it has been handed in.
Practise number up to 100, counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
Practise the cursive handwriting
Download the ‘zat phonics test’ and ‘zat phonics screening test’ app to support your child with their phonics.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to an exciting year full of learning!
