This year the children in Year 4 classes will be, as usual, working extremely hard. Our children will be broadening their knowledge and skills. The children will be continuing to work hard on all areas of Maths, embedding problem solving and reasoning throughout their learning. We will be using applying our Scientific and Mathematical knowledge to projects throughout the year.
Our English work will cover a full range of genres from non-chronological reports and leaflets, to narrative writing. They will also be looking at stories from other cultures and poetry. We expect all children to read continuously as this will help in all areas of the curriculum. Parents can help with this at home and listen to their children read regularly using the booklets we have provided to question appropriately.
In Science Year 4 are going to be examining the Different States of Matter and linking it to the Water Cycle, constructing the digestive system as well as electrical circuits and learning about animals and their habitats. Throughout Science they will be making connections about the subjects they are investigating in a practical and exciting way. Our termly S.T.E.M. projects will allow children to build on the skills they have learned in a practical way by designing, constructing and evaluating money containers, torches and photo-frames.
Throughout all of their learning the children will have access to a range of technologies for researching, presenting and communicating information they have found. They will also be learning how to make algorithms and debug programmes. Work will be shared with parents and family using our school Facebook page.
In R.E. we will be learning about other faiths alongside the work we undertake on using Values in our daily lives.
We expect all our Year 4 children to work hard but to have fun in their learning! We will be regularly outside school at the start and end of the day. The children’s rewards and sanctions can also be found on SPTO where you can also check their progress. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s progress or wellbeing please get in touch.
