At St Silas we believe that a good understanding of the knowledge and skills in Mathematics is essential for all children. We have close links with our local Maths Hub and NCETM and have develop a Mastery Approach to the teaching of Mathematics. This supports our aim that all children achieve in Mathematics.

We use a range of approaches and resources. New concepts are introduced  with concrete resources, such as Numicon and Base 10, to ensure understanding and then developed with pictorial representations, such as number lines, before finally moving onto the more traditional abstract Mathematics. This can clearly be seen in the Calculation Policies on this page.

The National Curriculum 2014 is the basis of our Mathematics curriculum. This is delivered through the Power Maths Scheme, which is a DfE approved Scheme of Work for Maths.
