Why We Take Worship Outside: Finding God in the Fresh Air
Our Casting Away Our Worries worship sessions take place in the Reflection Area on our deck, rather than a classroom or hall. This isn’t just for a change of scenery—it is a deliberate way to help children connect with their faith on a deeper level.
Here is why our Outdoor Worship is such a powerful tool for our children:
It Makes the Abstract Real
For a child, ‘giving a problem to God’ can feel like a difficult concept to grasp. By stepping outside, we can turn spiritual ideas into physical actions.
In our activity: When a child physically throws a paper plane over the courtyard or watches a bubble float into the sky, or simply throws a note into a recycle bin, they aren't just imagining letting go of worry - they are physically doing it. The vastness of the outdoors reminds them that there is a space big enough to hold their troubles.
It removes the Quiet Barrier
Traditional indoor spaces often come with an expectation of stillness and silence, which can sometimes stifle a child's willingness to share. The outdoors is naturally full of sound, such as wind, birds, rustling leaves. This sensory freedom often helps children lower their guard, making them feel safer to voice their anxieties and open up about how they feel.
It connects with the Creator
There is no better backdrop for learning about God’s care than His own creation. When we read verses about God looking after the birds of the air or the lilies of the field, being outside allows children to see those examples right in front of them. It grounds the Bible in reality, reminding them that the same God who sustains nature is looking after them, too.
It Provides a Breath of Peace
Fresh air and open space have a scientifically proven ability to make people more at ease. By moving our reflection time to the Reflection Area, we are already helping the children’s bodies relax before we even begin the discussion. This creates a calm foundation where prayer and reflection can take root more easily.
